Virginia Marijuana Card Application

Purchasing Medical Marijuana in Other States with your Virginia Medical Marijuana Card

If you wish to purchase medical marijuana products in other states, then you will need to submit an application to the Virginia Board of Pharmacy to receive your state-issued medical marijuana card.

Remember if you only plan on purchasing medical marijuana in Virginia or Washington DC then you do not have to apply for your state-issued card. To visit a dispensary, you only need the medical cannabis certificate you received from the healthcare provider after your appointment. Which means you can go straight to the dispensary right after your appointment.

Below is a video showing the entire process of applying for your Virginia Medical Marijuana Card with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy as well as buttons to start the application process.

After you complete the application and pay the $50 application fee you will be able to submit the application. You will receive your state-issued card electronically by email and it can be accessed through your online account with the state. If you have any problems during this process please do not hesitate to contact us at (804) 893-5068 or email us at hello@cannabismdtelemed.com

Email to cbd@dhp.virginia.gov

After you email the above documents to the Board of Pharmacy you should receive an automated email from the Board of Pharmacy. I have copied an EXAMPLE of this email below.

  • Thank you for contacting the Board of Pharmacy Pharmaceutical Processor program.

The Board is currently receiving a high volume of applications.  All efforts will be made to process applications in a timely manner and within the order in which they are received. To avoid unnecessary delays in processing, please ensure you have submitted a copy of the Written Certification for Cannabis Products and proof of age, identity and residency. Once the application is processed, you will receive an email notification: 1) if additional information to process your application is required; or 2) when your application has been approved. Checklist items will not change on the checklist until the items have been reviewed.

We are receiving hundreds of emails and phone calls daily and are triaging both to prioritize replies. There is no need to email or call multiple times as this causes delays in processing the applications. We encourage the use of email as an alternative to calling the Board as the inquiry will be received in a more timely manner.

Once your application is approved, you will receive notification by email.  You may take the approval email to a dispensary for the dispensing of medical cannabis products.

We thank you for your patience as we work diligently to process applications.

Once you submit the information your application should be approved within 30 days. Keep an eye on your email in case they require any additional information. If they request any additional information please reply to their email with the requested information rather than sending a new email.

Medical Cannabis Cards are sent electronically BY EMAIL they are no longer mailing out physical copies due to ongoing issues with the United States Postal Service.

If you still would like a hard copy of your medical cannabis card you can request to have one mailed to you by replying to the approval email which also acts as your Electronic Medical Cannabis Card. They will not mail a physical card just for visiting a dispensary but they will if you request a manual card for employment purposes or because your doctor is requesting a copy of your physical card.

BELOW is AN EXAMPLE of the approval email you will receive from the Board of Pharmacy once your application has been processed and approved.

BELOW IS AN EXAMPLE OF THE APPROVAL EMAIL THE BOARD OF PHARMACY WILL SEND YOU. THIS IS AN EXAMPLE, NOT A STATE-ISSUED MEDICAL CANNABIS LICENSE AND IS FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY.

  • Dear Registrant,

Your application and supporting documents have been reviewed and approved. Due to continuing issues with U.S. Postal Mail delivery across Virginia, the Board of Pharmacy will no longer routinely issue physical medical cannabis registration cards. You may take this email, in either electronic or printed form, to a medical cannabis dispensary to obtain medical cannabis products.  In addition, you are required to provide your photo ID and written certification to the dispensary.
