Hello, my name is Dustin, and I’m 42 years old. I live with Spastic Cerebral Palsy—a condition marked by high muscle tone and stiffness, often leading to jerky movements and chronic discomfort. My journey hasn’t been easy, but it’s been one of growth, resilience, and transformation.
Growing up, my life was very different from most. I didn’t have the kind of family support that many others with disabilities might rely on. Because of that, I had to grow up fast and learn how to take care of myself from an early age. I faced anxiety, depression, and a deep sense of loneliness, but I never let bitterness or anger take root. Even though I’ve used a wheelchair my whole life, I’ve always tried to keep a positive outlook.
As I got older, so did my independence. With the support of my incredible caretaker, I’ve achieved more than I ever imagined. I’ve learned new life skills, lost weight, and developed routines that allow me to live fully and independently—alongside my loyal service dog. I’ve even traveled by airplane, Amtrak, bus, and Metro—all things that once felt impossible.
